It Started With A Belt

Michael started out making ladies’ belts. One day, Tina walked into a store, bought an entire outfit — but couldn’t afford the belt. Looking back, she finds it funny that this small moment was their first real connection. Little did she know, she’d end up marrying the man behind that belt.

From that humble beginning, Michael’s belt business grew — just like their connection. Together, they’ve built Phelan over 30 years, creating shoes crafted with the same care and dedication that started it all.

Today, Phelan is a family-run business with heart. The kind that remembers where it started — and still makes things the right way.

How Do I Take Care Of My Leather Shoes?

Plain Leather:

  • Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Keep them out of direct heat and sunlight.
  • Avoid rough or scratchy surfaces.
  • Use a clear, natural shoe polish now and then to keep them fresh.

Metallic Leather:

  • Clean softly with a damp cloth.
  • Steer clear of anything abrasive.

General Tips:

  • Please avoid chemicals or solvents—they’re not friends of your shoes.

Curious about why leather comes in unique tones and shades?

It’s because leather is a natural material — each hide is different, with its own character and texture. When dyed, these natural variations show through, giving your shoes that one-of-a-kind look you just can’t get with synthetic materials. It’s part of what makes genuine leather so special and beautifully unique.
